Abstract:
South Eastern University of Sri Lanka: Dreams, Memories, and Achievements
The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka attains twenty-five years of its existence on 15th May 2021 and it takes pride in celebrating its Silver Jubilee on 23rd October 2021, which coincides with the Founder’s Day of the university. Located in the midst of a flowing river, a stretch of coconut mangroves, and paddy fields, the university has a multi-ethnic and culturally diverse population.
In pursuit of making SEUSL’s vision a reality, the Strategic Plan 2019-2023 sets out its goals to achieve excellence in academic quality, research, innovation, and dissemination of Knowledge; excellence in infrastructure and human resource development; excellence in addressing social and industrial expectations; excellence in national and international collaboration; excellence in governance and sustainability. The strategic goals serve as a collective will of the university community to be committed to taking SEUSL to greater heights by 2023.
The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka consists of six faculties, twenty-two departments, and an annual intake capacity of 2158. The present internal student strength is about 5561 with 58.16% Muslims, 34.36% Sinhalese, 6.82% Tamils, and 0.67% Burghers from different parts of the country. It is noteworthy that there are around 11,768 external students and a few overseas students reading for their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the University.
